Air duct sanitizing and deodorizing

Sanitizing and deodorizing are optional treatments applied after a duct has been cleaned. They aren't necessary for most homes. We'll explain what the product does, why we'd use it and whether a simple cleaning is enough.

The honest starting point

The EPA recommends learning about any chemical treatment before agreeing to it, including whether the product is registered for use in ducts and what the risks are. It also notes that many of these treatments need more research. A clean duct, a good filter and a fixed moisture problem do more than a spray can.

When a treatment may be considered

  • A lingering odor after cleaning and after the source has been dealt with
  • Rodent or insect debris that a pest professional has already addressed
  • Smoke smell after the ducts have been cleaned

What we'll tell you first

You'll know the product name and can review its label and safety information before we start. If anyone at home has asthma, chemical sensitivities or a health concern, please tell us and check with your doctor first. You can always say no and still have the ducts cleaned.

What it won't do

It won't fix a moisture problem, replace mold remediation or keep a dirty system clean. If there's an ongoing source, deal with that first.

How a visit works

  1. Call or send a request. Tell us your city, what you've noticed and the type of property.
  2. We look first. We check the accessible parts of the vents or ducts and take you through what we see.
  3. You get a clear quote. You'll know the scope before any work begins.
  4. We do the work and show you. We go over what we cleaned, what we couldn't reach and anything that needs repair.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need sanitizing after every cleaning?

No. Most cleanings don't need it. We only suggest it for a specific reason, such as a lingering odor.

Is it safe for kids and pets?

Safety depends on the product and how it's used. Review the label and safety data with us beforehand, and ask your doctor or vet if you have concerns.

Will it get rid of smells for good?

Only if the source of the smell is gone. If the source remains, the odor is likely to come back.
