Evaporator coil cleaning

The evaporator coil cools the air moving through your system. When dust coats the coil, less air gets through and cooling can suffer. Cleaning removes that buildup where the coil can be safely reached.

Signs the coil may be dirty

  • Weak air from vents even though the filter is clean
  • Weak cooling on warm days
  • A musty smell when the system starts
  • Ice on the coil or refrigerant lines
  • Water around the indoor unit

If you see ice, turn off cooling and let it thaw before running the system again. A dirty coil is only one possible cause, and low refrigerant or a failed part can look similar.

What's involved

We shut off power, reach the coil through the available access panel, check for buildup and clean it with a method suited to the coil. Some coils are sealed in a cabinet with little or no access. We'll tell you if that's the case rather than force the job.

Keeping it clean

A well-fitted filter, replaced on schedule, is the simplest protection. Gaps around the filter let dust go straight to the coil. Regular HVAC maintenance helps catch problems early too.

How a visit works

  1. Call or send a request. Tell us your city, what you've noticed and the type of property.
  2. We look first. We check the accessible parts of the vents or ducts and take you through what we see.
  3. You get a clear quote. You'll know the scope before any work begins.
  4. We do the work and show you. We go over what we cleaned, what we couldn't reach and anything that needs repair.

Frequently asked questions

How often does a coil need cleaning?

There's no single schedule. It depends on your filter, how much the system runs and how much dust is around. A yearly look during maintenance is a reasonable habit.

Can I clean the coil myself?

Fins are delicate and the system has live electrical parts, so we recommend professional service unless you know the equipment well.

Will cleaning fix my weak AC?

It may, if a dirty coil is the cause. If it isn't, we'll tell you what else to check.
